Hmmm... P910i users, noticed the sound icon missing? This is just one example of why UIQ 3.0's menus are a step backward compared to UIQ 2.x. There are things that you cannot simply just tap on one icon and have access to all the settings, but rather, have to go through a few levels of the menus in order to reach them...

Hi Who and Joe, did you try out the max range for the WiFi? Did you also tried setting up WPA/WEP with SSID "hidden"? These are some security concerns which I have and hopefully, the P990i can live up to it. Thanks in advance.
Yup, the sound icon is missing so you will need to navigate (tap, click, scroll, click then can adjust sound volume.) This is in addition to the number shortcuts missing in the flipclosed menu.

As for WIFI, the review set was quite disappointing as I couldn't get more than 30M indoors with it. I am able to surf throughout my house with my HP iPaq but not able to do so with the P990i. Hope this gets addressed. I think the WIFI chipset has demonstrated quite poor range also in that I can only see 5 out of the 16 APs detected by my iPaq. My iPaq is also running on 802.11b and is 2 yrs old, i'd expect the P990i to be just as good if not better.

I managed to get the P990i working with WPA/WEP and also normal WIFI settings, however with the SSID broadcasts turned off (this is the default setting of my AP at home, plus most corporate WIFI networks, the P990i is unable to associate to the APs at all. It can only associate to APs which it can view in the clear. This is quite a major concern which I have raised in my review. All others who are concerned with WIFI use in corporate environment or even secured home networks might be in for a surprise.

doubt if there will be a lot of queues as most shops already are doing pre-orders. Smile

It works fine with exchange servers with Exchange ActiveSync enabled. The software comes free with all P990i/M600i devices. The URL with more details is here  http://www.dataviz.com/products/roadsync/uiq3/index.html

If you are looking at Direct Push Email functionality, you should compare which device has a better battery life.

well i am more concerned on portability as the first factor den battery. So how is battery for this p990, for the dup-pod is pretty ok (of cos no calls are made to and from the unit, a bit stupid right cos all the user complain is a bloody brick hehehehe) price wise is as high as the p990 for the unit they are using.

well, as a phone the P990i will beat any dopod hands down already lah... and now with the push exchange functionality, it is further enhanced... the only thing dopod has better is that it has a huge pool of apps to draw from. this symbian signing nonsense is going to cause a lot of unhappiness and also affect sales of the uiq3 devices (p990/m600)

true true.. that is one important factor to look at, also if you want better battery life, you might want to turn off 3G for both WM and symbian devices to see which one works longer. personally i still find that 3G does not have much benefits worth the loss in phone usage time.

true true.. and if you talk about portability and ease of use as a phone, WM devices are no fight Smile
